Birding and Beyond

I am Gaelen Schnare, a fourteen year old birder and photographer from Nelson, BC.  I first got interested in birds at around age seven, when I received my first camera and lens for Christmas, and I have birded all over North America, Ecuador, and Ireland since then. I hope you enjoy my photos and stories. To order canvas prints of any picture on this website, please email (only ships to Canada)

This spring I went on my first trip, in the past two years, to Anarchist Pass in the Kootenay Boundary region. Anarchist Pass is about two hours and 45 minutes away from my home town of Nelson so we usually only go once or twice a year. On our way there we saw a flock...

This February I went on my first ever trip to the San Diego Bird Festival and my first trip birding the southern west coast.

The first birds I saw came early, on the morning of our flight, when I saw over 30 California Quail outside of our hotel. When we arrived in San...

Two of these Jays came down and checked out our birding group as soon as I brought out some food.
